As the business game begins, teams of four players, guided by a facilitator, buy the Zodiak Company. They invest their own money. Attract investors. Sign for a bank loan.
And then the fun really begins. They spend an action-packed three years engrossed in selling products and services, collecting receivables, tackling business problems, investing in new products and fielding shareholders’ questions. Million-dollar chips flow on the game board as players implement strategies to turn the company around. Terms like cash flow, profit margins, return on equity, cost of goods sold, assets and many more come vividly to life. More important, through the profits and pitfalls of running their own company, Zodiak participants experience dramatic “discovery” learning that will literally change the way they view — and do — their jobs as well as gain a sense of financial literacy.
The game is only part of this exciting day of discovery learning. The action continues after the business game with a powerful series of “Connections” that challenge learners to connect their Zodiak experience and new financial literacy to their own organization’s financial and strategic issues. Employees and managers leave with a new understanding of the “business” of their business and a personal action plan to impact the bottom line.
